Vargrav desde Finlandia, black metal sinfónico para amantes de los primeros Emperor. Muy recomendable.



En una onda similar a Vargrav, los americanos Ringarë. Otro disco de black sinfónico/atmosférico de este año a tener en cuenta. Sale oficialmente este viernes, pero ya se puede encontrar por ahí.



Troll, con Nagash de The Kovenant y ex Dimmu Borgir, black metal old school con predominancia de los teclados.



Nuevo álbum de Varathron, uno de los grupos primigenios del sonido de la escuela del black griego.



Y este de Dreamwell no sé si ponerlo aquí porque es un potaje importante: te cuelan emo, blackgaze, hardcore, screamo y mil cosas más y se quedan tan panchos. Este tercer disco es tan bueno o mejor que el anterior.

Primer pepinazo del año. Black, post metal, screamo... Un puto pasote.

La verdad es que si el disco sigue el nivel de los adelantos pintaba bastante bien.

En este año voy a intentar postear un poco más y cada semana pondré por aquí lo que he escuchado y no haya salido antes. Empiezo.



Debut largo de los noruegos Sovereign después de los consabidos singles y EPs. Tenemos un creíble y disfrutable álbum de death/thrash old school con la dosis justa de progresivo. Muy maduro para una banda tan reciente.

VEMOD are by no means an average band. The Norwegians exist in the liminal spaces and the crossroads of places. The trio has chiselled their sophomore full-length "The Deepening" from the same sonic granite that its predecessor "Venter på stormene" came from over a decade ago. This bedrock is found in Namsos, where VEMOD were conceived as a lifelong passion project at the turn of the century by then 12-year old Jan Even Åsli. The nearest big city is Trondheim where the fiercely individual local Nidrosian black metal scene, which refers to the city's original name, provided VEMOD with its first point of musical reference as embodied by the first demo "Kringom fjell og skog" (2004).

When the Norwegians reemerged seven years later with both the track "Moestæ Qverelæ" on a split-single and the demo "Vinterilden" in 2011, they had considerably changed. The trio had taken a step outside by strengthening elements that have already been present before: a sprinkle of the majesty reminding of early IN THE WOODS..., a dash of melancholia, and a knife tip of introvert contemplation among a wide range of emotional and vivid sonic imagery. VEMOD's musical transition finds comparable parallels in the development of French brothers-in-spirit ALCEST even though there was no direct influence flowing either way. In hindsight, the Norwegians also pioneered such currently popular styles such as blackgaze and post-black metal, although they never subscribed to either. With their debut full-length "Venter på stormene" just a year later in 2012, VEMOD opened their music to new places: A mind-blowing performance at the prestigious Beyond the Gates festival in 2013 and the legendary special show within the national treasure of the Vigeland Mausoleum at Oslo's Inferno Festival 2014 cemented VEMOD's excellent reputation even across the Atlantic.

Now, "The Deepening" arrives with a different production, which resulted in a changed overall tone compared to earlier works and the Norwegians also reached out and tapped into new stylistic strata adding further elements to their sound. Even the lyrical themes running through "The Deepening" tell of change, transience, transformation, and growth. "The Deepening" offers an opportunity to look past long held beliefs and comforting illusions. At the crossroads of VEMOD's second album at this point in space and time waits a deepening understanding of their musical world.

Mourning Dawn, entre el black y el doom sin perder su buena dosis de melodía. A veces me recuerdan a los antiguos Katatonia.



Del mismo tipo que presentó discos interesantísimos bajo los apelativos de Ancient Mastery, Bergfried (tremendo el del año pasado) o Summer Haze '99 (no menos tremendo), llega el nuevo disco de Narzissus. Un mix de géneros que va desde el black hasta el heavy pasando por el prog. Erech Leleth (Malte Laslo Katthagen en su DNI alemán) can do no wrong. Al menos de momento.



Segundo álbum del trío Departure Chandelier, con miembros de Prurient, Akitsa o Ash Pool. Black con letras sobre Napoleón, su moderada dosis de épica y teclados muy presentes sin llegar a lo sinfónico y ni mucho menos a lo hortera. Buen disco.

Los chinos siguen sacando discos y no fallan, que animales.

A mí es un grupo, que por lo general, me deja frío. Y este disco no ha sido una excepción

Yo ni me lo he puesto. Nunca me han dicho nada, y eso que algunos miembros tienen su pedigrí en otros grupos. El de Inquisition sí me ha molado mucho y el de Knoll también, pero ha sido flojita la semana en novedades extremas comparada con la anterior. En lo "no extremo" me han molado Madder Mortem, Caligula's Horse y a ver si escucho el de Acerus, que pinta bien.

Pues a mí sí que me gustan mucho, los dos anteriores son muy buenos, el Come Death y Souls Of Damnation me parece sus mejores discos pero si, te tiene que gustar el death con tendencia Groove. A mí siempre me parecieron como si Cannibal Corpse hicieran groove

Este año sacan disco nuevo Fange, con este y el otro ya voy servido.

Repesco un par de cosas de esta semana:

Debut de los canadienses Dissimulator, con gente de Chthe'ilist, Atramentus, Beyond Creation o First Fragment. Es una muy hábil mezcla de thrash y death metal técnico con multitud de recursos. De lo mejor de esta semana.



No soy muy de álbumes instrumentales, pero este de Vipassi me ha enganchado. Cosa que se entiende si digo que hay miembros de A Million Dead Birds Laughing, Virvum o Ne Obliviscaris en el potaje. Muy técnico, enrevesado y entretenido.

Tremendo pepinaco, primer disco que veo claro para futura lista de lo mejor del año.

El de Sovereign bastante majo, nada revolucionario pero bien majo.
El de Inquisition me mola el instrumental pero no puedo con la voz... superior a mi.

Tengo pendientes los de Vemod, Knoll, y alguno más suelto, a ver cuando me da la vida!
