On March 27th Swedish progressive metal giants Meshuggah will release their eighth studio album Koloss on Nuclear Blast. Trust me when I say that the album is every bit as colossal as the title implies, too. Coming on the heels of 2008’s ObZen, which felt like a good encapsulation of the groundbreaking styles Meshuggah had honed since the beginning of the 1990s, Koloss sees the band setting their gaze forward once again. While the band’s famous precision is still evident on all the new tracks, what sets this album apart from everything else they’ve done is its warmth. The tone is a lot less sterile than ObZen and 2005’s Catch Thirtythree, and for the first time there’s a grooviness in the new material that we’ve never heard from the band before: Tomas Haake’s drumming swings more, while the riffs by guitarists Fredrik Thordendal and Mårten Hagström, while as disjointed as ever, nevertheless compel listeners to move. That sense of groove can be heard on tracks like “Behind the Sun”, “Marrow”, and especially the quirky funk (that’s right) of “Do Not Look Down”. Make no mistake, though, this is a Meshuggah record, and it boasts some of the band’s most pulverizing material since 1998’s Chaosphere. “The Hurt That Finds You First” and “The Demon’s Name is Surveillance” are unrelenting exercises in intricate speed, while the more deliberate pace of “I Am Colossus”, “Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave it Motion”, and “Swarm” focus on the band’s massively heavy side. All the while, Thordendal’s trademark jazzy solos are some of his best work to date, offsetting the band’s monstrous side with moments of delicate beauty, while vocalist Jens Kidman provides his usual commanding growl, as meticulously choreographed as the guitars and drums.

It all makes for Meshuggah’s best album since 2002’s masterful Nothing, and needless to say one of the best albums of 2012 so far

Un poco repetitiva no? Solo un poco...

La parte buena es que es un tema que recupera el sonido lento y pesado que a mí más me gusta de ellos. La parte mala es que cualquier tema del Nothing es bastante mejor. No sé, me deja un poco a medias, habrá que verla en el contexto del disco. No está mal pero espero bastante más de ellos, me da la impresión de que a estas alturas va a ser "un disco más".

Es cierto, utilizan melodías polirrítmicas ordenadas de manera inteligente y coherente (no es sarcasmo). Lo que quiero decir es que esta canción suena a Meshuggah y punto, siempre han hecho cosas así. Si esto suena repetitivo es porque Meshuggah te parece repetitivo, no hay más. Y es totalmente comprensible.

Yo sólo digo que con mirar su carrera y ver que discos como destroy erase improve, chaosphere, nothing, I no tienen nada que ver entre sí es suficiente argumento.

Pero si te he entendido perfectamente , mi frase ya no iba relacionada con lo que decías, sino que era el argumento básico para cualquiera que diga que son repetitivos.

Llamarme loco pero veo una gran diferencia entre la cosa esa y este temón
