CORRUPTED should be the the rare existence as the band nowadays struggling to expose the lies of life. Their 4th album is entitled "Garten Der Unbewusstheit", which means "garden of unconsciousness". This is the final album by "original" CORRUPTED featuring 3 tracks, total 63 minutes. But ”garden of unconsciousness” should have existed from the early hardcore approaching days of CORRUPTED. The reason is not clear, but definitely what was going on was not progression, nor development but seeking and recurrence. So the fact is that the beat on this album is most calm, gentle, and transparent than ever. And this paradoxical evolution form is nothing but the result of huge studio works, mixing thousands of feedbacks and guitar overtones like constructing the three dimensional architecture. The remarkable point of this 3 track hour of suit is that this album totally transcends our usual sense of time. Like feeling a minute & a second like infinity, and feeling 60 minutes & 360 seconds like moment...... this transcending sense can be described as the sense of liberation from material and life through music. TYRANNY "TIDES OF AWAKENING" CD (FIREDOOM/FIREBOX)

Tyranny are a band truly befitting of their label (Firebox)'s motto. "Mirksome music from the country of forests and thousand lakes". Bleak and crushing, 'Tides Of Awakening' pushes the bounds of drone-paced Metal to the limit, delivering one of the most sluggish-yet-justifiably drawn out records I have heard in many years.

Typically I'm not one to go out of my way to seek out such unconventionally-paced records as this, but many of those that I have heard have become some of my favourite albums from their year of release. The most similar recent record to 'Tides Of Awakening' that I can recall is Swallow The Sun's fantastic 'Ghosts Of Loss'. The two are vastly different but to retain some core similarities. The next closest thing would be some of the better-known Drone Doom/Sludge releases from bands like Pelican, Isis and Cult Of Luna. The most striking difference between all these bands are Tyranny is that Tyranny really, really strive to walk the outer limits of what many would consider music. This shit is slow. Really slow, but it really works. Indeed, this is a delicate balancing act between music and experimental sound, and one which has been pulled off faultlessly. Everything seems to be drawn out as far as conventionally plausible. Drums are extremely restrained, riffs slowly ooze as if they're wading through a pool of virtual molasses, keys delicately provide the ethereal atmosphere and barely distinguishable vocals growls slowly seep from deep within the throat of a vocalist whose true name I am ignorant of, due to the veil of obscurity the band sustain.

Thanks to the magic of computers (Quicktime to be specific) I was able to experiment somewhat with 'Tides Of Awakening', and listened through a number of tracks a triple speed without any pitch distortion, and found that even at that speed, the music sounded considerably slow. This really is testament to just how leisurely the songs crawl by. There's quite an interesting concept behind Tyranny, the watered-down version is that the record is based around the prehuman era. The music, attempts to illustrate the vast, emptiness of a period in which antediluvian, inhuman beings exist. When viewed for what it is - an aural interpretation of such a concept, Tyranny have really hit the mark. This isn't a conventional record, nor is it aimed at a conventional audience, but those willing to take on board the entire concept, and those who also enjoy Funeral/Drone Doom and elements of Death Metal will be right at home with 'Tides Of Awakening'. If this review has conjured up positive thoughts and images, I have little doubt you'll really enjoy this 67-minute, 5-track, very atypical album.

ROADSAW "SEE YOU IN HELL" CD ( SMALL STONE RECORDINGS)

There are scores of bands out there claiming to have the status of "legend" but only a few really meet the definition. Boston's Roadsaw is among that elite. Formed in the mid-'90's by Craig Riggs and Tim Catz, they raised the bar for riff loving hard rock, proving that the West Coast didn't have a lock on what most considered "stoner rock." They released a single on Man's Ruin, three albums ("$1,000,000," "Nationwide," and "Rock n Roll"), a compilation of singles and B-sides ("Taking Out the Trash"), toured the hell out of the US and Europe with the likes of Nebula, Orange Goblin, and Scissorfight, and then, like all good bands and unlike too many shitty ones, went on the dreaded "indefinite hiatus.

The idea of COLOSSEUM was born in 2006 when the mastermind of YEARNING started due to his frustration towards mostly everything to create extremely slow and heavy material. After composing five full-lenght cd's under the name of YEARNING he wanted to do something extremely dark and powerful.

Mixture of darkest kind of Funeral Doom Metal with the strong influences from both Dark Ambient and Orchestral Works melted together from the very first beginning. The idea was to mix together the rich and colourful chord progressions of classical music,the soundscapes of Ambient and total darkness and heaviness of extreme Doom Metal. Dauntless slowness and power of Funeral Doom genre mixed with influences from such acts as Dead Can Dance,Lustmord etc.

New songs began to take their form quite easily and finally the compositions were finalized with the lyrics wandering in the realms of suicidal depression, delirium, Sumerian/Lovecraftian myths and ghastly depths evoked by the dismal atmosphere of the music.

Although clearly in thrall to usual suspects - Saint Vitus, Trouble, Candlemass et al- Spiritus Mortis had more than enough character of their own to dispel the notion that this was in any way by-the-book. Songs like Vow To The Sun and Rise From Hell boast smartly crafted melodies delivered with soulful aplomb by powerhouse vocalist Vesa Lampi, and there are bowel-blitzing riffs in plentiful supply too. The real treats on this reissue, however, are the four bonus tracks, which include Albert, a gloriously turgid tribute to Reverend Bizarre.
